America Recycles Day is on November 15 and the Consumer Aerosol Products Council (CAPCO) is pleased that, after 20 years of awareness efforts, more than 5,300 U.S. municipalities now include aerosol cans in their recycling programs. Many individuals, however, remain unaware that these products are recyclable.
America Recycles Day is a national initiative of Keep America Beautiful, and this year’s theme is Bathroom, Bags, and Gadgets. CAPCO suggests that consumers enter the #IwillRecycle Sweepstakes by taking a selfie of themselves recycling an empty aerosol product in their bathroom and posting it on Twitter at @RecyclesDay and @RecycleAerosols with the hashtags #IWillRecycle and #Sweepstakes. For more details on how to enter, read the Official Rules. Aerosol products including empty shaving cream, hairspray, mousse, first aid spray and sunscreen cans ARE recyclable when empty.
Recycling empty aerosol containers is as easy as 1-2-3:
- Empty the aerosol of its contents through normal use.
- Check instructions from the local collector to determine if empty aerosols are accepted.
- Place empty aerosol container in bin along with other recyclables
