CFC correction on ABC’s “The View”

In the March 2, 2015 episode of The View, the cast was discussing climate change. Rosie Perez referenced “a national campaign about let’s stop using aerosols” from 25 years ago. She mentioned that aerosol products are still being used today causing the demise of the ozone layer and leading to climate change.  Ms. Perez and Whoopie Goldberg concluded that the reason that aerosols are still being used is because people don’t care and are not informed and they asked viewers to “do their part.”

CAPCO reached out to the producers of the show and provided them with the facts. Consumer aerosol products have not contained chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) for over 30 years.  In the mid-‘70s, scientists discovered that CFCs were contributing to damage in the Earth’s upper ozone layer.  At that time, many aerosol products did use CFCs as propellants.  Product manufacturers began voluntarily removing CFCs from aerosols prior to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) banning them from use in aerosol products in 1978.  You will find more information on the EPA website at: and of course, on

The View responded by correcting the misinformation on the March 23 episode of “The View”, the correction is at the 21 minute mark.
